Pink and Carey Hart posed for their first family photo shoot with their baby, Willow Sage. Pink told People that she is absolutely loving her role as a new mom.

She said, “You hear people say it all the time, how life changes so drastically. But you can’t possibly grasp how beautiful that is until you have your child. I could sit and watch paint try as long as she was in my arms.”

I simply love Memphis this time of year! The whole world seems to come alive with a hundred shades of green.  Warm afternoons that stretch into the evening with breezes that carry the fragrance of Magnolia blossoms and honeysuckles and fresh cut lawns and the intoxicating aroma of charcoal grills burning into the dusk. It’s the kind of season that makes you happy! With the end of June  approaching, every Memphian knows that long hot humid Memphis summer. It’s not just uncomfortably warm. It’s squint your eyes ,wipe off the sweat, hard to breathe, burn the flesh off your hand on the car door HOT. And when it gets here it stays for a while. Memphis summers can be absolutely brutal, and sometimes it seems like there’s just no relief. It’s with that relief in mind that I began my search for a cool local oasis. That search led me to one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. It’s not fancy or pretentious, and you won’t find a Starbucks or see many $80.000.00 cars parked along it’s shady tree-lined streets. It’s the kind of neighborhood I grew up in, and I think that’s what makes me love it so much. It’s an honest, hard-working older neighborhood that has been home to generations of honest hard working people and even though the shine has long faded, the charm has only grown sweeter over the years. You might say it’s haunted by the ghosts of happy memories, and to me it just feels like coming home. Tucked away on a sleepy little corner in Berclair at 1657 Wells Station Road is a long-time Memphis family institution called Jerry’s Sno Cones. Can you remember your first Sno Cone on a hot summer afternoon? I sure do. My favorite flavor was Bubblegum, and as barefoot kids we used to line up in breathless anticipation of that first cold crunchy bite of sweet flavored ice in a paper cup, wondering who would be first to eat too fast and get a brain-freeze. Jerry’s offers 75 basic flavors of Sno Cones, but with your own personal custom mix, the flavor combinations are as endless as your imagination. It doesn’t end with just Sno Cones either. Jerry’s is home to the best soft-serve ice cream in the city and a whole delicious menu of hot fresh food. Take the family to cool off at Jerry’s, and tell ‘em Bill sent you! :-)

Filmmakers love the fabled family summer vacation as fodder for plot lines full of irresistibly comic possibilities. With the whole family in the car, the cottage or on the beach, what could go wrong? Here’s a look at some of our favorite summer vacation movies

Hey Memphis!
Wow! This week has flown by! Hope you’re having a good one. You know, one of the things I love so much about our city is all the unique and eclectic things you can find if you take the initiative to look. And there’s a street in Memphis where there’s more funk per square block than any other street in town. You probably won’t read about it in any tourist guide, but if you’ve lived here for any amount of time, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that there’s nothing anywhere like a cruise down Summer Avenue. If you’re looking for a street in Memphis that has stories to tell, this is it. I like to think of Summer Avenue as Memphis’ own version of Route 66. And with good reason too, because the histories of these two roads have some striking similarities. Back in the days before I-40 cut a straight four-lane path across the state, Highway 70 was the road to Nashville, and Summer Avenue was the Memphis leg of that highway. Travelers on their way through town were accommodated by Motels, Gas stations, souvenir shops, restaurants, and all manner of roadside curiosities along the way. Needless to say, Summer Avenue was once not only prime real estate, but was a very important part of the local economy and in its heyday was really something to see. Nowadays at first glance, Summer Avenue seems to be a funky collection of used car lots, ethnic restaurants, antique shops, daycare centers, trailer parks, churches and bars. A street that seems to be lined with everything from fast food to flea-markets, where you can experience everything from modern retail centers to urban semi-blight all along one road. And although the shine might seem to have worn off this once grand old Avenue, the soul still thrives. Summer Avenue has a vibe that is unique in all the city, and if you take the time to explore it, you will be rewarded with an experience that no other part of Memphis can provide. Tucked away amid the clutter of Summer Avenue are bits and pieces of the past that still stand as they were, seemingly untouched by time. After your tour of the boulevard of forgotten dreams, be sure to  Grab lunch at one of my Summer Avenue favorites, Taqueria La Guadalupana. I’ll be back Monday for your ride home. Have a great weekend and try to stay cool! :-)

Last week, during the finale of her talk show, Oprah Winfrey gave an email address for fans to keep in contact with her — saying that she’d personally respond to as many as she could. According to Perezhilton.com, a fan sent the email to the site, that O has been sending out to all fans that have emailed her — which reads: “Got your email. Thank you for watching the finale. I could feel your beating hearts, along with mine, through the TV screen. I’m off to take a little rest, and then I’ll get busy working on OWN.” She added, “Take care of yourself. I’ll write soon, Oprah.”

Lots of fans have been getting the same email — and according to the site some are disappointed.
