Hello fellow Memphians!
What a grey week it’s been! Seems like winter just hangs on for dear life this time of year. All that is set to change this weekend, so take advantage of it and get the heck out of the house and drink in a little sunshine! Memphis is blessed with the most beautiful springs anywhere! If you’re a movie buff, I have a real gem for you. You might remember the original “True Grit”, the 1969 classic western starring John “The Duke” Wayne as Rooster Cogburn, and Glen Campbell as Texas ranger La Boeuf. Well, if you’re a fan of this great story, you have to check out the new one, directed by my all time cinematic favorites, Joel and Ethan Coen. (Fargo, No country for old men, The Big Lebowski). Friends, Jeff Bridges IS Rooster Cogburn. And Matt Damon is awesome as La Boeuf. Plus Hailee Steinfeld is  brilliant as Mattie Ross. Josh Brolin is simply malevolent as the misanthropic Tom Chaney. Don’t wait for the DVD. This is one you have to see on the big screen. On a sad note, one of my favorite authors and one of the last brave American truthtellers Joe Bageant passed away yesterday at the age of 64. Joe’s work offers compassionate insight into the lives of everyday folks, The unsung backbone of America, in his brilliant books “Deer Hunting with Jesus” and “Rainbow Pie”. He was a real inspiration to me and if you haven’t read his work, take the time to do so. It’ll touch your heart. Whatever you plan to do this weekend, be safe and I’ll be back Monday afternoon for your ride home with more goodies in The River Box Office. Thank ya. Thank ya very much. :-) Bill

SIGNS IT’S TIME TO QUIT YOUR JOB (Yahoo!)

You Aren’t Learning Anything New

Yes, you want to know how to do most of your job. But there are also things you want to be learning; otherwise you are not growing professionally. If you have stopped learning at work, it’s time to find a job where you will learn new skills and grow professionally.

You Never Have a Day When You Wake Up Excited To Go To Work

If you wake up every morning Monday through Friday and never feel excited to go to work, that is a problem. It means you aren’t enjoying your job and it is diminishing your quality of life. If you wake up every day and dread going to work, it’s time to consider quitting your job.

You Spend More Time Surfing the Web Than Doing Your Job

When you are at work, you are supposed to be productive. Otherwise, it’s a waste of your time and the company’s money. If you are bored and surfing the web most of your work day, you may want to think about looking into job options where you’ll get more stimulation and responsibilities.

You Don’t Like Most of Your Coworkers

There are always one or two coworkers in the office that most people can’t stand. But if you don’t like most of your coworkers, chances are your days aren’t very enjoyable because you have to work with them day in and day out. If you can’t stand most of your coworkers, it’s time to think about finding a company whose employees you mesh with better.

You Aren’t Making Enough Money to Pay Your Bills

If you are working your butt off and not getting paid enough to pay your bills, you might be overqualified and underpaid for your position. Go find a job that pays what you deserve.

You Spend Time Looking For Other Jobs

If you are spending time looking for other jobs while you are on the clock, it’s obvious you want to leave your job. So keep looking for new jobs and as soon as you find a good one, take it and run.

You Haven’t Gotten a Raise in the Last Two Years

If you work hard and benefit the company you work for, you deserve to be rewarded for that. If your boss hasn’t given you a raise in the last two years, ask for one. If he or she says no, get out now.

Your Boss Sucks

Sometimes bosses suck. But if your boss sucks all the time and takes advantage of your time, it’s time to find a new job.

The Company Isn’t Doing Well

This sign varies from company to company. You must keep in mind that we are in a recession and if sales are down but the company isn’t in jeopardy, this sign may not apply to you. However, if business is down to the point where it looks like the company is going to go under, start looking for a new job NOW!

You are Stressed All the Time

You are supposed to enjoy life, not be stressed out all the time. If you spend most of your days stressed about everything that going on at work, you are not at the right job.

Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky is defending Natalie Portman against claims that she only danced five percent of the full-body shots in the film. A controversy erupted after Portman’s dancing double Sarah Lane came forward claiming that she was responsible for the majority of the dancing in the film.

Aronofsky released a statement in Portman’s defense, saying, “Here is the reality. I had my editor count shots. There are 139 dance shots in the film. 111 are Natalie Portman untouched. 28 are her dance double Sarah Lane. If you do the math that’s 80% Natalie Portman. What about duration? The shots that feature the double are wide shots and rarely play for longer than one second. There are two complicated longer dance sequences that we used face replacement. Even so, if we were judging by time over 90% would be Natalie Portman.”

He added, “I am responding to this to put this to rest and to defend my actor. Natalie sweated long and hard to deliver a great physical and emotional performance. And I don’t want anyone to think that’s not her they are watching. It is.”
SARAH’S CLAIMS

Lane, who worked on the film for six weeks, told EW.com, “They wanted to create this idea in people’s minds that Natalie was some kind of prodigy or so gifted in dance and really worked so hard to make herself a ballerina in a year and a half for the movie, basically because of the Oscar. It is demeaning to the profession and not just to me. I’ve been doing this for 22 years. Can you become a concert pianist in a year and a half, even if you’re a movie star?”

Sarah added, “She can’t dance in pointe shoes. And she can’t move her body; she’s very stiff.”

Aronofsky also addressed Lane’s pointe accusations saying, “To be clear Natalie did dance on pointe in pointe shoes. If you look at the final shot of the opening prologue, which lasts 85 seconds, and was danced completely by Natalie, she exits the scene on pointe. That is completely her without any digital magic.”

Greetings my fellow Memphians!
Well I just had a little talk with Jim Jaggers about the weekend weather and all I can say is you can’t win ‘em all. Looks like rain friends. All weekend long. That’s an even better reason to get up and get out of the house (After sleeping in of course). If you’re looking for something unique to do be sure to check out my latest feature on UNDERGROUND MEMPHIS on The Antiques Gallery at 6044 Stage Road in Bartlett, Then go on down there and browse 100 plus years of modern American history. Say hi to Kay Ericksen and tell her I sent you by. You have to have lunch at The Serendipity Tea Room inside The Antiques Gallery too. It’s a real treat. I’ve been meaning to see True Grit, so pending the babysitter situation we’ll probably give that a try. I hope you have a fantastic weekend! I’ll be back for the ride home Monday.  Bill ;-)

Billy Ray Cyrus got taken to task by Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts during his appearance on the show yesterday (Wednesday, March 23rd) morning. He told Robin that he’s trying to be friends with daughter Miley Cyrus, to which Robin informed him, “She needs a daddy!”

Billy Ray said, “I still want to be Miley’s friend. I want to be that person that she comes to talk to for good, bad, indifferent. I just want her to trust and know that I love her more than life itself and I’ll be by her side through the good and the bad.” Robin quickly repeated her opinion, saying, “She’s got plenty of friends, she needs a daddy!”

Hi fellow Memphians!
Wow! Is this weather great or what?! The weekend is at hand and I for one am planning to spend some time outdoors shaking off what has been a long case of cabin fever. More than likely that will involve some quality time with my backyard grill. I hope you and your family have an awesome weekend. I’m off to explore another interesting place for Underground Memphis, so look for it soon. I’ll be back for your Monday afternoon ride home.  :-) Bill
