The judging panel won’t be the only difference when American Idol returns to Fox in January. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told TVGuide.com that finalists will be facing new challenges throughout the competition.

First off, the contestants will have to make music videos. They’ll also have to work on promoting themselves and work with bands and dancers for an awards show-style performance.

Additionally, producers have eliminated the round where they decrease the contestants down to a group of 12 from 24. Nigel explained, “I didn’t think [the top 24] were very good, I was bored with them by the time they got there.”
Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, will act as an in-house mentor.

But Sheryl Crow has gone all out with her 150-acres solar equestrian estate in Tennessee. In addition to five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a salt-water pool, nanny quarters, guest house, a 14-stall barn and an indoor riding arena, Sheryl’s farm generates enough solar power to reduce energy costs by 42 percent. Cross Creek Farm is now on the auction block through November 23rd. The current bid price is $1,000,000.

Actor Robert Downey Jr. is providing the voice for Mr. Peanut — who’s never spoken until now — and the character is getting a gray flannel suit and a sidekick named Benson. However, what isn’t changing is his trademark top hat, monocle and cane. The made-over Mr. Peanut is being introduced on his Facebook page today (November 9th) as the kickoff to a holiday-themed advertising campaign.
