Hey friends and neighbors!
It’s been a busy week! We’re getting the preparations wrapped up to throw the final party of this year’s Memphis in May celebration, the Autozone Sunset Symphony at Tom Lee Park. With special guest artists K.C. and the Sunshine Band performing with our Memphis Symphony Orchestra, plus the biggest fireworks display in America, this should be one heck of a way to end the month! I want to wish you and your family the safest and most wonderful Memorial Day weekend and remind you that we’ve got some pretty big stuff right around the corner! Watch our website this Tuesday for your chance to win the ultimate John Mayer prize package! The Banns will be at the Peabody next weekend hanging out with Jason Lee and the stars of TNT’s new police drama Memphis Beat. Plus coming soon to Underground Memphis it’s an exclusive interview with Memphis’ own resident alien, 333 year old Prince Mongo of the planet Zambodia. All of this and more is coming your way as we usher in another Memphis summer! Keep the faith.  Bill

Kate Gosselin reportedly banked over $500,000 for her stint on Dancing With the Stars. PopEater.com reports that each person on the show gets paid $100,000 an episode — explaining why higher-profile stars like winner Nicole Scherzinger sign up.

Meanwhile, more “Kate’s a diva” reports surfaced after her return to the program on Tuesday. PerezHilton.com reported that before Kate took the stage, she insisted the studio temperature be changed so that she wouldn’t sweat.

Spies supposedly overheard Kate’s partner Tony Dovolani telling others that the “notoriously difficult Barbra Streisand” would have been easier to work with than Kate.

Hi friends and neighbors!
Feels like summer is getting an early start in Memphis, and from where I stand that’s not such a bad thing. I’m just remembering shivering in the 5pm darkness back in January looking forward to the kind of weather (and daylight) we enjoy this time of year. It was a busy and fun weekend for the Bannisters. Saturday morning we got up early and had breakfast at one of my favorite new breakfast places. It’s Subway, and if you haven’t tried a build your own flatbread breakfast, I highly recommend it. Then it was off to meet Mandy, Brad and Allie at the entrance to the zoo! Friends, this is truly one of the BEST family fun things to do iin Memphis. As members you can get perks like free parking, unlimited family admission, and early access to seasonal exhibits like “The Birds and The Bees”, which we were there to check out. After showing our cards and breezing through the gates, we realized we were a little early since the exhibit didn’t open till 10am,so we took the girls to see the primates (Savy LOVES the Gorillas). Allie was kind enough to share her Radio Flyer wagon with Savannah, and they had a lot of fun taking in all the sights, sounds, (and smells) of the zoo. The real fun began when we entered the Birds and The Bees exhibit and got to feed the parakeets. Then we headed over to the Teton Trek amphitheater to take in the awesome Sea Lion show. The Memphis heat was beginning to take it’s toll on the parents by noon, so we said our goodbyes and headed to our air conditioned cars. On the way home, I stopped at Charlies Meat Market on Summer where Chuck Hogan sold me the biggest most beautiful 1 pound Filet Mignon I have ever laid my eyes on to be sacrificed upon the Bannister grill later. After an afternoon nap, we went back home and I cranked up the mini-tractor, manicured the lawn, and got that big wonderful steak started in my secret marinade. Then, Sunday afternoon, under those big trees in our backyard, I turned it into a work of culinary art. All in all a really great weekend for the Banns! Hope you had a good weekend too! It’s Monday. Yay. I know. But I’ll be along all week to make the clock go just a little faster. I’ve got tickets to the Autozone Sunset Symphony featuring KC and the Sunshine Band, as well as tickets to the Elvis Presley International Car Show at Graceland Memorial Day weekend! So buckle up and join me from 2-7 each afternoon this week! Always count your blessings and thanks for listening!  Bill

except: Diet and Exercise..

Wow, Jennifer Hudson went from a size 16 to a 6, thanks to The Weight Watchers Program! She looks great, congrats Jennifer.

I thought I would dig up some of the more ‘cooky’ celeb diet fads, just for a chuckle (laughing burns calories, right??)..

Have you tried any of these? Feel free to post a comment.

Hi.  This is the time of year you can really appreciate living in Memphis.      Please check out our events calendar and pick at least a couple of great Memphis things to enjoy.     There’s the Memphis in May Sunset Symphony, the Memphis Italian Festival,   our next WRVR Listener Lunch, the Live at the Garden Concert Series,  Memphis Redbirds Baseball and lots of indoor stuff too!

Please  use and enjoy our city.    Go to the zoo, the parks, the libraries, the golf courses, the museums, the live theatres and other places that need our support.    Let   Mayor Wharton know that closing libraries and golf courses is not the way to save money.     Our city officials have to know we care about having these amenities and that we will use them.       The more we use and  appreciate all the great things in Memphis, the more we’ll love our city.

Thanks for reading and listening.

God bless you and God bless Memphis.

Pam

Greetings friends and neighbors!
Well, we’ve made it to the halfway point! What a week it’s been too! Thanks to everyone who came out to our HUGE WRVR Listener Lunch at Germantown Park. I promised myself I’d use moderation at the Carnival Food tent, but I just couldn’t help myself. Those King Cotton smoked sausages on a stick were just too hard to resist. The Banns are gonna be back at the Memphis Zoo this weekend! The Birds and the Bees seasonal exhibit is back and Savy’s gonna get to feed the birds! I’m heading over to Charlie’s Meat Market on Summer tomorrow to pick up a couple of 12oz. Filets for the weekend. Then Saturday afternoon I plan to ice down a couple of Mexican brews and fire up the Bannister grill. Ahhhh, nothing finer than that my friend! I hope you have a fantastic weekend. I’ll be back in the saddle Monday afternoon for your ride home as we get ready for the big Autozone Sunset Symphony on the 29th!  Bill

Seems our favorite explosive celeb is at it again!

Russell Crowe stormed out of an interview with the BBC after a critic said his accent in Robin Hood sounded Irish. When Mark Lawson asked if the Australian actor meant to have a Northern Irish accent in the film, Crowe snapped, “No I was going for an Italian … missed it?”

He continued, “You’ve got dead ears, mate — seriously dead ears if you think there’s an Irish accent.”

Good thing there wasn’t a rotary phone lying around. .. This could have been a LOT worse!!

Alexa, who’s now the spokesperson for Prell shampoo, told People, “I was thinking about getting this for years (my nose) always bothered me a little bit. I was self-conscious of pictures taken from the side. To some people that’s vain, but at the end of the day, we all want to feel pretty.”

Here’s the article I told you about.. How to look good in pictures!
